Fixing Multi-Entity Schema.org Graph Conflicts for International Businesses

How conflicting JSON-LD schemas injected by multiple SEO plugins caused Google to drop rich snippets and misidentify a European multi-location business, and how we consolidated them into an interconnected @graph architecture.

When Googlebot crawls your structured data, it builds an internal knowledge graph of your business entities. If your website emits contradictory signals — such as declaring two different company headquarters or orphan product schemas without parent organization links — Google simply drops your rich snippets and demotes your entity authority.

This teardown examines a dental clinic network with practices in London and Frankfurt that lost their Google Local Pack rankings due to structured data fragmentation.

Act 1: The Crime Scene (Snippet Drop & GSC Validation Warnings)

The client saw their organic click-through rate fall by 34% after their Google Search rich stars, opening hours, and address cards vanished from the SERP.

Google Search Console reported 420 “Unparsable structured data” and “Conflicting entity definition” warnings:

Google Search Console Alert:
- Duplicate field 'Organization' detected
- Missing parent entity for @type: LocalBusiness
- Review snippet orphaned: target item missing @id reference

When checking Google’s Rich Results Test tool, the page rendered 4 independent <script type="application/ld+json"> blocks that had no relational awareness of each other.

Act 2: Forensic Root Cause (The Plugin Chaos)

The website was utilizing Yoast SEO, a local review aggregator plugin, and an e-commerce booking add-on simultaneously.

The Conflicts:

  1. Yoast SEO output an @type: WebPage pointing to an @type: Organization with an @id of domain.com/#organization.
  2. Review Plugin output a separate @type: LocalBusiness with a completely different @id of domain.com/#local-business, creating two distinct entity identities for the exact same physical business.
  3. Doctor Bio Plugin declared medical practitioners as standalone @type: Person entities, completely detached from the clinic organization.

Googlebot was confused: Is this a national corporation, a local dental clinic, or an independent doctor directory? To avoid displaying erroneous information, Google stripped the rich snippets entirely.

Act 3: The Surgical Fix (Unified Interconnected @graph Architecture)

We disabled the chaotic plugin-generated microdata and replaced it with a single, pristine JSON-LD script injected at the template header using an interconnected @graph schema:

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@graph": [
    {
      "@type": "MedicalOrganization",
      "@id": "https://domain.com/#organization",
      "name": "Apex Dental Partners",
      "url": "https://domain.com/",
      "logo": "https://domain.com/assets/logo.png"
    },
    {
      "@type": "Dentist",
      "@id": "https://domain.com/london/#clinic",
      "name": "Apex Dental London Harley St",
      "parentOrganization": {
        "@id": "https://domain.com/#organization"
      },
      "address": {
        "@type": "PostalAddress",
        "streetAddress": "42 Harley Street",
        "addressLocality": "London",
        "postalCode": "W1G 9PR",
        "addressCountry": "GB"
      },
      "geo": {
        "@type": "GeoCoordinates",
        "latitude": 51.5194,
        "longitude": -0.1467
      },
      "openingHoursSpecification": [
        {
          "@type": "OpeningHoursSpecification",
          "dayOfWeek": ["Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday", "Thursday", "Friday"],
          "opens": "08:30",
          "closes": "18:00"
        }
      ]
    }
  ]
}

Why This Works:

  • The @id Hash Anchors: Every entity references parent and child nodes through immutable @id URIs.
  • Parent-Child Inheritance: Googlebot immediately recognizes that the London and Frankfurt offices are physical branches (parentOrganization) of the same legal entity.

The Verdict: 100% Rich Snippet Recovery

We submitted the revised schema via Google Search Console’s URL Inspection API:

  • 100% of GSC structured data validation errors cleared within 72 hours.
  • Review stars, opening hours, and address cards reappeared in Google SERPs within 9 days.
  • Local 3-Pack rankings restored to Top 2 positions for high-intent queries like “emergency dentist central london”.
